☙ Goosebumps: Secrets of the Swamp is a 2022 ALA Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers!
Goosebumps: Secrets of the Swap #1 offers readers a taste of thrills to come, without giving too much away. Grab yourself a flashlight and a water bottle, the swamp is full of secrets!
– The Brazen BullGoosebumps: Secrets of the Swamp #1 is part of a franchise where, let’s face it, we kind of know what to expect in the big picture. But where they stand out is in the individual execution, in the choices of characters, and in balancing horror tropes with a younger audience in mind. This one is off to a solid start.
– Major SpoilersGoosebumps: Secrets of the Swamp #1 is a great start to another Goosebumps comic book volume. From the first issue, this might be my favorite one so far. Travel back to Fever Swamp and remember “who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?”.
– Word of the NerdGoosebumps carries with it a certain weight. It’s a legendary series of young adult novels that defined a generation. Secrets of the Swamp continues that tradition in spectacular fashion, delivering a healthy amount of scares that all ages can enjoy.
– Horror DNAGoosebumps: Secrets of the Swamp #1 is a strong start to a YA horror story that can set a good example as to how to get the most out of the genre. The creative team for this comic is in perfect synchronization and it shows. Stay with this comic. There’s a lot of horror to be had with the promise of more to come.
– Graphic Policy[Goosebumps: Secrets of the Swamp #2 has] a nice eerie, spooky feel to it. The werewolf designs are good, and for younger readers, I can see this being a good horror medium for them.
– Word of the NerdGoosebumps: Secrets of the Swamp #3 does a charming job of turning a monster trope inside out and finding the humanity in it, but in a good way.
– Major SpoilersThanks to stunning revelations in the last issue and a cliffhanger that promised excitement to come, I’ve been eagerly awaiting [Goosebumps: Secrets of the Swamp #4], and the team on this book have certainly not let me down, delivering what might be one of the best issue of Goosebumps yet.
– Set The TapeGoosebumps: Secrets of the Swamp #5 is a nice conclusion to a not-so-typical werewolf story that is written for younger readers. It’s thoughtful and is just a little bit scary. Readers can identify with the characters and I have to admit, I really like the sympathetic werewolves.
– Major SpoilersIt’s very rare that Goosebumps get sequels, and I can only think of one or two off the top of my head, but if they ever want to return to this setting and these characters I’m going to be grabbing those issues straight away, as this has been one of the most fun experiences with the Goosebumps comics I’ve had.
– Set The TapeA dynamic and thoughtful action story with a laudable but never preachy message about looking beyond prejudices and standing up to injustice. Fans of IDW’s “Goosebumps” graphic novels or of Scholastic’s older graphic novel adaptations of the series will enjoy this new offering.
